Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin coverings for teeth that improve the appearance of your natural teeth. The white coverings bond directly to the front surface of your teeth to improve your smile by changing the size, alignment, and color of your visible teeth.

Joseph Dental Group applies Lumineers® brand veneers. They are thinner than traditional porcelain veneers, and therefore don’t require any removal of your natural enamel to apply, unlike traditional veneers. Because of this, Lumineers can be removed in the future.

Can veneers fix my teeth?

While veneers can’t achieve the same improvement for misaligned and crooked teeth as orthodontic treatments such as Invisalign® or metal braces, they can fix slightly uneven or misshapen teeth.

Veneers also improve:

  • Stained teeth
  • Excessive spaces between teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Irregularly shaped teeth

The Joseph Dental Group team examines your teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for veneers. If so, an impression of your teeth is created and sent to the laboratory so your veneers can be created. Veneers are applied to your teeth in a single visit.

Can I get veneers?

Veneers are not an appropriate treatment for severely crooked teeth in need of orthodontics. Because veneers bond directly to your natural teeth, you can’t get veneers if your teeth require restorations, or if you have gum disease. If this is the case, you first need to restore your oral health.

Are veneers permanent?

Lumineers veneers last between eight and 10 years and are not considered permanent. You can extend their life with proper care and maintenance. Brush and floss your teeth twice each day, and keep up with your twice-annual professional dental cleanings and exams at Joseph Dental Group.

Avoid chewing hard candy or biting your nails as doing so can crack or chip your veneers. If your veneers get damaged, schedule an appointment for a replacement. Also, avoid extremely chewy foods as they may pull the veneer away from your tooth.

Dr. Suh completed advanced dental education including the Dawson Academy Core Curriculum to ensure his veneer applications are aesthetically pleasing and functional.
